Invite someone and choose what they can do

To let someone into your shed, an Admin invites them from Settings, then Team. Nobody from your company gets in without an invitation, even with a work account. The invitation lasts 14 days, and signing in with the invited address is what accepts it.

To invite someone

  1. Go to Settings, then Team.
  2. Fill in their work email, and a name if you like.
  3. Choose what they can do. New invitations start at Download.
  4. Add a short note if it helps. It goes in the email: "The 2019 campaign files are under Campaigns."
  5. Press Send the invitation.

They get an email from Shed saying who invited them and what they can do, and they sign in with their work Microsoft or Google account. If 14 days pass first, their row says Invitation ran out, and Send again gives them another 14.

The address has to belong to your company's Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. Someone outside it, a freelancer with their own domain say, cannot sign in at all. Send them a link instead: see Share a file or folder with a link.

To choose what they can do

There are five levels. Each includes everything above it in this list.

LevelWhat it allows
ViewBrowse, search and preview files. Nothing leaves the shed.
DownloadView, plus downloading files and ZIPs and using the bucket.
Put backDownload, plus putting files and folders back in the cloud they came from.
ChangePut back, plus uploads, new folders, rename, move, the bin and restoring from it.
AdminEverything: who can see what, sweep approvals and settings, devices, billing, and Team.

A level says what someone can do. Who can see says where. If a folder is kept to named people, anyone not on its list cannot open it, whatever their level. See Keep a folder to certain people.

When someone asks to come in

If someone at your company signs in without an invitation, Shed tells them so and offers to ask for them. Admins get an email with an Invite button, and the request shows on Team. Dismiss tells them nothing. They can ask again after 24 hours, not before.

To change or end someone's access

On their row, press Change. From there you can:

Removing someone also disconnects their Mac. If the computer is going with them, block it as well: see Disconnect or block a Mac.

Nothing happens to any files either way. Shed will not suspend or remove the last Admin, so make someone else an Admin first. Every invitation, level change, suspension and removal shows in Activity, with who did it and when. To ask for a code as well as a sign-in, see Ask for a code as well as a sign-in.
